After the successful entry with wallboxes into the market of charging solutions for single-family homes, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) will in future also offer modular, expandable solutions with dynamic load management for charging many vehicles at one connection. To this end, the subsidiary Amperfied GmbH has acquired a stake in the software specialist Flotteladen GmbH. Flotteladen GmbH, Allensbach, develops and sells software solutions for e-vehicles, especially for installations with multiple charging points, such as in apartment buildings. The investment in the company accelerates the further development of Amperfied GmbH from a manufacturer of wallboxes to a system provider for charging in apartment buildings and vehicle fleets. Through close cooperation, Amperfied aims to broaden its product range and open up new areas of business. In the long term, the investment also secures access to and further development of the software backend required for this purpose.

Germany must resolutely press ahead with the transformation of its transport system, as no new vehicles with internal combustion engines are to be registered in the EU from 2035. This can be achieved with electromobility if the electricity required comes from renewable sources such as wind power and photovoltaic plants. To ensure that all 48.5 million cars registered in Germany can be powered fully electrically by 2050 at the latest, the power grid must also be expanded to include decentralized and local energy management. This can succeed if the expansion of electromobility is seen as an impetus for an energy transition in buildings. This is the conclusion of a new white paper published by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG), whose subsidiary Amperfied GmbH manufactures charging solutions for electromobility.

The demand for charging solutions for electric vehicles in the private sector is growing rapidly. Current market analyses predict annual growth in excess of the 20 percent mark. Already today, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is one of the most successful suppliers of wallboxes in the German market. In order to better meet the rising demand in this sector and thus further expand its market position, Heidelberg has now commissioned a second production line for the manufacture of its wallboxes at its Wiesloch-Walldorf site. The company thus plans to roughly double its production capacity by April of this year. From now on, Heidelberg will be producing the Heidelberg Wallbox Home Eco and Heidelberg Wallbox Energy Control models with various cable lengths and customization options for the German and European markets in two production lines working in two shifts.

In addition to Germany, electromobility is also picking up speed in neighboring Austria and Switzerland. In both countries, for example, registration figures for electric vehicles have risen dramatically in the current year compared with the previous year. In Austria, for example, registration figures rose by more than 150 percent year-on-year from January to September (source: Bundesverband Elektromobilität Österreich). In Switzerland, the trend is similar. Here, as in Germany, most charging takes place in the private sphere (source: Swiss eMobility).

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has significantly exceeded its own growth expectations in the area of e-mobility in financial year 2020/21 (April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021) following the presentation of preliminary, as yet unaudited figures. The sales target of around € 15 million first communicated in the fall of 2020, which was already very significantly higher than the previous year's figure of around € 10 million, was significantly exceeded at over € 20 million in view of the dynamic development of demand. In addition, Heidelberg was already able to achieve a positive margin with charging stations (wallboxes) for electric vehicles despite increased growth investments. Heidelberg had entered this field of work only three years ago on the basis of in-house technology competencies and innovation know-how and has since risen to become one of the market leaders in the German-speaking region with a market share of around 20 percent. Since 2018, around 45,000 wallboxes have already been sold to end customers.

As the number of new registrations for electric vehicles continues to rise, so does the need to be able to charge several vehicles simultaneously at the same location. Since last year, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has been offering the Heidelberg Wallbox Energy Control with integrated load management, which can charge up to 16 vehicles simultaneously in a network. This system thus offers an attractive charging solution for multi-family homes, commercial or corporate customers in the hotel and restaurant sector, or even housing associations. At the same time, these customers want smart and transparent control of their charging infrastructure. Heidelberg will therefore be presenting the Heidelberg Combox for the first time at the virtual Hannover Messe, which will take place from April 12 - 16, 2021.
